Automated Roller Shades for Frisco, Prosper & Celina Custom Homes
May 30, 2026 · 6 min read

If you're building or just moved into a custom home in Frisco, Prosper, or Celina, there's a strong chance your builder either pre-wired for motorized shades or will tell you it's the most-requested upgrade after closing. Here's how to think about the spec.
Why automation has become the default
Modern North Dallas custom homes are full of glass — patio sliders, transom windows, second-story landings — most of which are physically out of reach. Manual operation isn't practical, so automation isn't really an upgrade anymore; it's the only realistic operation method.
On top of accessibility, automation unlocks scenes. 'Morning' raises every shade in the house. 'Movie night' drops the media room blackouts. None of that is possible with cords.
Pre-wire vs retrofit
If you're still at the framing stage, low-voltage pre-wire from each window head down to a structured wiring closet is the cleanest path. Cost at framing is a small fraction of retrofitting after sheetrock.
If you've already closed, that's fine — battery-powered motors have improved enormously and recharge once every 12–24 months on average. We retrofit fully wireless in finished homes constantly.
Integration with Control4, Crestron, and Lutron
AOK motors integrate cleanly with Control4 and Crestron, which is what most North Dallas custom-home AV integrators are deploying. Lutron-equipped homes generally pair best with Lutron's own shade line.
If your AV integrator hasn't been brought into the shade conversation yet, loop them in early — scene programming is much smoother when both systems are speced together.
